Another Summer Frenzy!

A late spring (summer?) meant jamming my gardening (weeding/cleaning) into the month of June instead of April/May when I am usually gardening.  Grandaughter Siri stepped into the fray, helping me weed and clean the border beds while I did the gardens.  She did a great job!  With a little screaming every time a spider appeared, or a bug crawled on her arm, she pulled the grasses and dandelions from the flowers.  Thank you Siri - you are a god-send!  We worked on the yards & gardens right up to July 1st.  With the house cleaning still hanging over my head, I decided to recover my kitchen chairs with the fabric I had purchased 2 months ago! With Bruce's help (albeit a few complaints) the kitchen decor now matches the new rugs.  I left the painting for a later date. The house got cleaned, the July 4th decorations got hung, the cocktail party on the deck and the ladies "garden tour" on the 4th was successful.  Another 4th of July under our belt!

One day off (July 5th) for clean-up and down to Southern MN to visit sisters, step-mom, daughter's work site and a 50th class reunion.  What a wonderful trip!  What a wonderful family I have!  And how great to visit with former classmates.  The down-side was finding out how many of my former classmates are no longer among the living.  How did we get so old?  And why hadn't I noticed?  Too busy?  I guess, thankfully, too busy!

Reached home on Monday afternoon to find my flowers literally overwhelming the house & gardens!  What a treat!  With rain every other day and the 80 degree heat, everything is so lush.  Definitely, we now live in Tropical Northern MN!

Blueberries & Art

The Blueberry Art Festival in Ely yesterday afternoon was amazing and hot - a fun time with girlfriends that didn't mind stopping and talking, laughing and shopping all afternoon!  What a treat - Also the watermelon lemonade.
Stopped by the Mesabi East Gallery in Aurora to pick up my paintings from their 1st ever juried art show and received 25.00 award for the People's Favorite - the "Coral Iris" batik.  Very impressed with the professionalism shown by the staff and in particular, Talicia Honkela.  Looking forward to meeting some new students in my fall batik classes too!

LONG HOT SUMMER!

Sorry I've been too busy this summer to post! Can you believe we are already in late July? Between readying paintings for the Mesabi East Gallery, the Discovery Center, the Ely Greenstone Art Show and the MacRostie Gallery . . . trying to keep up with God's Little Acre of Gardens (and weeds) and the 4th of July frenzy . . . time just does not stand still!

Difficult Choices

The opportunity to enlighten myself of the business world has precipitated some difficult choices.  Whether my creative sensibilities are offended by the temptation to make money or are encouraged by the ability to produce salable goods!  Ah . . . . the great dichotomy!
